Very quiet. I only saw staff, rarely any other vacationers in the building unless we went to the pool or restaurant. Food is good, but my husband become ill after having oysters. We shared everything else at that meal, except I did not have the oysters. Weather was quite windy so we could not swim in the ocean.

When we arrived, we were told that our room was changed from a king to two queen beds. The hotel rep said that they contacted Apple vacations a few days earlier to ask if it was ok. I booked this vacation many months in advance and was not notified of this change.

We were stuck with two queen beds and neither Grand velas nor apple vacations were willing to be accomodating. The resort was not anywhere near capacity so I was surprised at their unwillingness to correct the situation. I did not push the issue because we were having a great time. The closure of the restaurant to service breakfast and lunch at the Zen was an inconvenience as we had to take the van ride to the other part of the resort for these meals. Other restaurants were closed on a rotation schedule and three were adult only limiting the choices for meals. The Lucca Italian restaurant was not up to the standards of the other restaurants. We found the Spa outrageous in prices. However the food at the Sin Lin, Frida, Bistro was outstanding as was ths service.

The negative reviews,,, wow hard to impress. I will however mention a few tips. Firstly walk out to the beach and head left(North) , the beach is nearly up there with the Maldives in crystal clear water. On the first day we walked south , not as good and many cheaper resorts.

The pool attendants are amazing , nothing is a problem and all done with a gracious charm. Can I mention Orlando here, one afternoon we headed to the beach to watch the sun go down and Orlando came down the beach with drinks we had ordered from him a few days prior.

He remembered and made a great moment even better. He could have just lazed around and waited for us to ask. My wife mentioned that the breakfast station was missing a fruit we had a day prior, next day as we came in for breakfast , it arrived at our table, the Azul manager(Rolando?? The rooms are huge and whether you stay in the Zen , Ambas or Grand section , every part is great. My wife and I walked from the Grand section to the front gates each morning. After walking for 5 mins a small quad bike would arrive and escort us and of course water and a cold towel was offered at the end. It was very quiet when we arrived and often restaurants where closed , so our choices where limited , but this did not spoil a great trip.

To the "Grand Velas Group" , please do not change anything and drop quality or standards. The great reviews will continue.

A tour guide the day before we arrived claimed that Grand Velas was not only one of the best resorts in Mexico, but probably the world. He was correct . If you can afford to stay here do it for 4/5 nights.

Ambassador Queen Suite with Plunge Pool and Ocean view. We received a very warm welcome and were taken from reception at the Ambassador Class to the Karaoke Bar nearby for a relaxed check- in over a welcome drink - no karaoke! Here, we were introduced to our concierge Amrendy - who informed us that she would look after all our needs for the duration of our stay. I have to say that she was excellent and we communicated not only in person but also through whatsapp.

She told us we could contact her at anytime on whatsapp even if she was off duty and she would sort out whatever was required! We couldn't ask for more! She did not let us down!

The most important take home message from this review is that the Grand Velas is THE BEST ALL INCLUSIVE I've been too and it is worth its inclusion in the Leading Hotels of the World group! The stand out thing about this resort is the service! The service everywhere is excellent!

Very personalised with most staff addressing you by name at restaurants and poolside. If anything, dare I say the service can be almost too good! I was embarrassed when at AZUL, where we enjoyed the fantastic breakfast buffet every morning, waiters would try to carry your plate the few steps from the food area to your table! Perhaps a little over the top? At poolside, the poolside attendants would never let us be thirsty and drinks were replenished very frequently!

Special thanks to Tayde, Alexander, Jorge to name just a few but all were excellent! Throughout the day at the pool, staff would bring treats like ice popsicles, cheviche and guacamole made to your own taste! The pool guys would also offer Evian face mist sprays and would polish your sunglasses!
